The tourist industry bets cruises extend the season in the Mediterranean

Leading representatives of the cruise industry have opted Monday to extend the season of cruises in the Mediterranean, including months with warmer temperatures as October, March and April.

In the press conference of presentation of the fair Seatrade Med Cruise, held from Tuesday to Thursday in the Gran Via de Fira de Barcelona, President of the Port of Barcelona, Sixte Cambra; el de Seatrade Med Communications, Chris Hayman; and the director of UBM Live, Andrew Wiliams, were in favor of extending the season and increasing passenger capacity of Mediterranean ports.

He also warned that in some parts of the Mediterranean there are "symptoms of congestion" in reference to the need to reform various infrastructure to absorb increased demand.

The global cruise industry accounted 91.000 million in 2013, generating 891.000 job, and 21 million passengers boarded ports worldwide.

The 55% passengers from around the world come from North America –10 US million– and 30% Europe, and the average length of a cruise is seven days with three or four scales.

SEATRADE MED

The Seatrade Med, the main congress Mediterranean cruise industry, Barcelona will bring together more than 3.000 managers, professionals and industry experts Cruisers 40 countries around the world and to 200 Exhibitors, in which will be the first edition of this event in Spain.
